In the beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The same was in the beginning with God.

Through him all things were created, and without-him anything not was created that was created.

In him life was, and the life was the light of (lit. concerning, with respect to) humanity.
5 to fa'y'lis chelagan isa to droyoti, zhef to droyoti-n ea zhun patizhu fre.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not mastered it.
6 ye zhun jon nikh sheltu edwozhor, zhef dlu ennam fwi yohanan.
There was a person sent by-God (God-by), and his name was John.
7 di atean k'mor gwidnur iteste gwid da to fa'y'lis.
He came as witness in-order-to testify about the light.
(The remainder of this verse is missing here: "so that through him all might believe.")
8 di-n ea fwid taf fa'y'lis, gela atean k'mor jon gwidnur da to fa'y'lis.
He was not that light, but came as a witness about the light.
9 to fa'y'lis ste frulaf, gu fa'y'likzho gasht nikh, shan atean itsa to sa'y'dov.
The true light, that enlightens every person, was coming into the world.
10 di fwid isa to sa'y'dov, zhef to sa'y'dov fwi kwerrtu itar dri, zhef to sa'y'dov-n ea zhun gnozho dri.
He was in the world, and the world was created through him, and the world did not know him.
